Multi award winning artist, Russ McIntosh, has spent over 15 years developing and honing his unique style of digital photography. In the past two years, he has emerged as a hard working and diligent artist. Going from relative obscurity to being featured in magazines and news outlets, his work has graced galleries prominently throughout the east coast as well as select exhibitions in the continental United States, including California and Louisiana. Russ also works hard at helping other emerging artists with his blog, as well as offering tips and advice to those artists just beginning to showcase their work.

Have you ever stared at a cloud and saw shapes and images in them? The essence of my art is for the viewer to look deep within my images to find something much more than what they originally saw upon the initial view of the pieces. The images I have created have many layers in them, and though at first glance the main composition does register with them, it is upon further reflection that the viewer can see “hidden images” that were originally unnoticeable.

The approach I take with my artwork is very distinct, in that I incorporate numerous photographs into a very unique composition. Utilizing anywhere from six to two dozen images or more, I build a piece up. At times when layering the images, other images can be noticed, and I will adjust the highlights and shadows adding some digital paint to make the piece more cohesive. With a vivid imagination I try to present the essence of staring at clouds within my own artwork. If you look at the shadow shapes and highlights within the image, other objects will start to take focus.

Good day! I am Vladimir Dzintra, Latvia’s most important photo blogger and DJ of major radio show, MaximumFunky on the Baltic Sea during summer time. Please call me Vlad.

I am celebrating National Holidays in Latvia, and came to visit America’s Captiol, Washington, DC. I had the good occasion to attend a most unique event on Saturday night, that I read about in Washington Post.  It was name Slideluck Potshow, and I don’t remember seeing such a thing in Riga ever before.  Under same roof, we eat barley and enjoy funny picture show.

We had stormy, windy night when I visited American haunted house on Pennsylvania Avenue, near where the Premier sits.  Inside was many beautiful American girls, many delicious foods made from hand and refreshing beverage from this Brooklyn Brewery.  I heard about such brewery before because my Polish cousin, Krzysztof, is living near there.  He says neighborhood is becoming full of Giggletossers.

In slideshow there was 26 artists from District of Columbia area.  We had so funny pictures from American presidential campaign by TJ Kirkpatrick, familiar pictures of men with strong beard by Christopher McCool,  lovely pictures from Holy Land by Daria Lombroso, interesting pictures from small village in Iowa by Brendan Hoffman, crazy pictures like a dream I had when I visited special mushroom hunters by Russ McIntosh, and fun pictures of men dressing like a woman by Eli Meir Kaplan.

After show, I went to nearby drinking house, the 18th Amendment, and enjoyed more time with my new friends.  After a couple few glasses of potato vodka, I had a contest to see who had strongest legs with one Asian man and one man with beard.  You don’t have to take time to ask me who had strongest leg!

I met nice people, enjoyed very much my time at Hill Center, and hope to see another entertainment such as this – perhaps when I again visit during Fotoweek DC in November.  Next time, I bring my most satisfying grey peas and ham!

I'm so excited and in awe! Wow!
That's pretty much one of the coolest things is to be written up in a national newspaper for the first time!

Virtually Digital IV Opening

Lenny Campello recently posted on his blog the announcement of the opening of Virtually Digital IV at Montgomery College, of which I am one of the few artists participating along with Mr. Campello himself. And Lenny was nice enough to use my image of "contemplation" for his blog. I will also have "Unthought Known" and "Knock On The Sky" on display as well at the show.

Lenny Writes:

Virtually Digital VI is a biennial exhibition that features the fine art work of regionally, nationally and internationally known artists who incorporate some form of digital method in the creation of their art. Works in this exhibition includes drawings, paintings, photographs, prints, video and mixed media. 

The organizer and curator of the Virtually Digital biennials is Professor Mike Cantwell who is the coordinator of the Computer Graphics: Art and Animation program at Montgomery College. 

The exhibit will open today, March 5th and runs through April 6th. There will be an artist reception on Wednesday March 21st in the CAT (Communication Arts Technologies) Gallery at Montgomery College Rockville Campus from 6 to 8 PM. The reception is free of charge and open to the general public. 

The participating artists are Professor Anne Benolken, Richard Dana, Clay Harris, David Kastner, Agniezka Ligend, Russ McIntosh, John McMahon, Professor Harry St. Ours, and I am honored to have been invited to exhibit in this show as well.

The Gallery is located in room 106 Technical Center (TC) on the Rockville campus, Montgomery College and is open Monday through Wednesday 10 AM until 6 PM, Thursdays 10 Am until 8 PM, Fridays 10 AM until 1 PM, and Saturdays by appointment.

I've met Lenny numerous times at various functions, and this past weekend I was able to attend his seminar at The Brentwood Arts Exchange. Which I would highly recommend to any artist no matter what stage you are at. Thanks Lenny!!

Contemplation on The Pink Line Project

I love FREE publicity of my work!! I was just browsing The Pink Line Project, and found my artwork "contemplation" was featured on their daily happenings.

Granted it was supposed to be for the "Impressions" art show in Falls Church tonight. But I'll take what I can!

It appears they corrected it and have a separate posting for "Impressions" for its duration. You can still see the page here!

The Billboard Art Project in Reading, PA and New Orleans, LA

The Billboard Art Project

This Saturday, October 22, you can view Several of my pieces on a Giant Digital Billboard in Reading, PA as well as in New Orleans, LA!!

Beginning at Midnight in Reading you can view Amore Adumbration, Elements, JesusHell, and Pandora. To view the times my artwork will be displayed, you can refer to this Handy Time Schedule. My work will be displayed roughly ten times throughout the day.

Also beginning at Midnight in New Orleans you can see Angelic Composition, Divine Vision, Knock On The Sky, and Sisyphean Tableaux. Saturdays and Sundays my pieces will be interspersed throughout the day with other artists, but Monday through Friday during the week of November 7-11 my art will be shown with only a select few artists.

The Billboard Art Project is taking over roadside digital LED billboards to turn them into free public art venues for 24 hours or more.

Those in-your-face and colorful canvases that you see as you sit stuck in traffic are turned over to local and international artists for a little break from everyday advertising, presenting larger-than-life art in glowing colors.

Catch a glimpse from your car as you drive by, or hang out for awhile and watch the show with other artists and onlookers.

You won't know what is coming next as different artists explore this medium, with the electronic canvas morphing every 6-10 seconds.

A lot of this art makes for great iPhone wallpapers. We’re always looking for cool art that could fit on our iPhone. Either way, we suggest checking out his work, there’s a lot of neat stuff. His work reminds us of a Pink Floyd album cover. He has some amazing stuff, and it’s all available on his website. Of course it’s all a bit more traditional, such as his framed canvas work. It’s all available on his website for viewing, and it’s worth checking out his work here.

A lot of it also makes for great iPhone wallpapers. We’re always looking for cool art that could fit on our iPhone. Either way, we suggest checking out his work, there’s a lot of neat stuff.

The Power of Ideas Feature!

Which basically means something along the lines of:
