Impressions Show - FCA

contemplation will be in the upcoming FCA "Impressions" juried art show.

The juror for this show is Steven Munoz, director of the Lee Arts Center, a program of Arlington Cultural Affairs. He has curated a number of exhibitions at the Lee Arts Center, curated The Art of the Storyteller at Shirlington Branch Library, and was juror for The Art League's All Media Exhibit in 2010. Steven holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in printmaking.

A New Year and LOTS of Art Receptions!

The year has just begun and I'm already confirmed for FOUR shows so far this year! 2012 looks to be another stellar year for my artwork. I ended last year with over 20 shows under my belt within an eleven month time. I was able to compete twenty new pieces of work, with the year ending in a commissioned piece (Altitude Attitude) and have already started work on a new commissioned piece for the new year!

Dying To Get In Reception

Deadcandance is a triptych of three seperate images that can be arranged in any order. This series is currently ONLY AVAILABLE For Sale on my BLOG.

The ReCREATE: H20 art exhibition will celebrate the one-year anniversary of the opening Center for Green Urbanism's Tubman-Mahan Art Gallery in Washington, DC. The Gallery is part of the Center's eco-friendly business incubator facility providing office space for small to mid-sized businesses and start-ups. The Center and Gallery is located in Ward 7 of northeast Washington, DC on the edge of Fort Mahan Park, a national park site and gateway to the Fort Circle Park Trail.

This year's theme is: WATER. Water plays such an important role in our lives, encompassing social, economic, cultural, and environmental issues. Some ideas to think about are: How does water play a role in your life individually and on a global scale? How would you recreate your world to make it better? What would you change? How does your art express the vision of ReCreate and theme of water?

My recent artwork "revelation" will be on view at the Del Ray Artisans gallery beginning this Friday, October 7th. Come out to the reception and view all the other works also on display.

Join Del Ray Artisans and SPARK: art from writing/writing from art as we embark on an artistic journey that pushes boundaries. This show is a first for Del Ray Artisans: seventy-two artists signed up to respond to poems and prose by seven SPARK writers. Each artist received one written piece (their creative “spark”) and then had approximately two months to create new work using the assigned story or poem as a jumping off point.

“There’s nothing like a deadline to get the creative fires burning,” said Amy Souza, show co-curator and SPARK founder. “Plus the story or poem gives you an immediate starting point, something to ponder and delve into for images and ideas. In essence, the written work becomes the artist’s muse.”

Co-curator Amanda Wright is running a Get Sparked! round for students at Greenbriar East Elementary. Students will be given a story or a poem to be inspired to create a new piece of art. “It’s such a fantastic opportunity and experience for children to share their creativity and imagination with others and to see their work in a gallery setting!” said Wright.

Opening Reception: Friday, October 7 from 7pm-10pm. Experience a unique showcase of writing as inspiration, and artistic interpretations. Light snacks and beverages will be available.

Reading: Friday, October 14 from 7pm-9pm. SPARK writers share aloud the inspiration pieces that prompted the current gallery show’s art. Light snacks and refreshments. Donations accepted.

Student Reception: Friday, October 21 from 7pm-9pm. Greenbriar East Elementary students showcase artwork inspired by selected poets and writers. Kid-friendly opening, light refreshments, an art project to take home!

In a series of abstract paintings, Anne Marchand explores a new vocabulary of color and texture in the swirling vortexes of nebulae and the surfaces of moons and planets, bringing these into her ongoing search for ways to approach mystic poetry through visual expression. In the show, "Of Shining Worlds: Recent Paintings by Anne Marchand," curator Claudia Rousseau highlights more than 30 paintings by Washington, DC based artist Anne Marchand. The exhibition brings together works inspired by images from the Hubble spacecraft that relate to the artists theme of interconnections. The show at the King Street Gallery, the Morris and Gwendolyn Foundation Arts Center, Montgomery College will open with an artist's reception, on Thursday, September 22, 6:00 - 8:00pm, and remain on display through October 19, 2011. The artist will comment on her work, followed by a poetry reading and live music on Thursday, September 29, 6:00 - 7:00pm.

The King Street Gallery is in the atrium of the Morris and Gwendolyn Foundation Arts Center on the west side of the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. Parking is available in the West Garage which is located immediately behind the center.

Artists explore journey from darkroom photography to advent of digital image-making;

reveal narratives that photojournalism creates about distant global cultures

NORTH BETHESDA, MD – With Building Bridges, Not Fences, Strathmore explores the technical and conceptual journey of photography from traditional to digital media, through the reinvention of image-making through modern technology. This exhibition also ignites conversation about the aesthetic bridge that photojournalism builds between cultures as masters of the medium transcend borders through their work. The exhibition will be on view in the Mansion at Strathmore from September 24, 2011 to November 5, 2011. The first floor follows photography from darkroom to digital image-making with traditional black and white photographs by Bruce Barnbaum, digital photographs from Dean Kessmann and innovative digital compositions by Bruce McKaig. Emerging Washington, D.C.-metro area artists Minna Philips, Solomon Slyce, Wilmer Wilson IV and Brittany Sims will conclude their residency experience by unveiling new works in the Strathmore Fine Artists in Residence Exhibition. These young artists’ unique voices and contemporary perspectives will be expressed through photography, mixed media, drawing and painting in the galleries in the Historic Mansion at Strathmore through Saturday, August 20, 2011. The multidimensional exhibition will also include work from Fine Artists in Residence mentors - multimedia artist F. The Strathmore Fine Artist in Residence (Fine AIR) program cultivates local visual arts talent in the D.C.-metro area by pairing emerging artists with established professionals in related disciplines and mediums.
