2013 Open Exhibition

Exhibition Dates: August 3rd - September 1st, 2013

Description: This is an Open Call for proposals for an exhibition in the summer of 2013. This call is open to all artists from North America working in all visual media. Proposals for exhibitions by both individuals and groups will be considered. Our jurors this year are Foon Sham, Samantha May, and Morgan Hungerford West.

Jurors:Samantha May is the Gallery Director of Hillyer Art Space, a non-profit D.C. art gallery dedicated to assisting local and international artists make their entrance, or re-entrance in to the DC art scene. At Hillyer Art Space she oversees all exhibiting artists, mounts the monthly gallery exhibits, and chairs the Artists’ Advisory Committee made up of well-established local artists; with Emeritusmembers including: Bill Christenberry, Sam Gilliam, and Manon Cleary.

Morgan Hungerford West is a visual artist working in a variety of mediums, from film and photography to large-scale, sculptural installations, stop-motion animation, and prop-styling. Her lifestyle blog, Panda Head, has chronicled her projects, writing, and photography since 2006; in 2008 she founded Panda Head Magazine, a Washington, DC art and style mag currently in its fifth year, and for which she serves as Editor. Born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, Morgan currentlyresiding in the District of Columbia.

Foon Sham is a noted sculptor and professor, currently teaching the University of Maryland, College Park. He has had 30 solo exhibitions in the Washington Metropolitan region and in New York, Ohio, Delaware, New Mexico, Canada, Norway, Mexico, Australia and most recently in Hong Kong. His work have been included group exhibitions at Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington DC and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. His public collections include the large scale sculpture at the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail Station, the Convention Center in Washington DC and recently the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong, and many others across the globe. He has also received many noted awards; in Washington, DC he is represented by Project 4.
