The Tubman-Mahan Gallery Presents “Mama Earth: An Artistic Celebration of the Beauty of Earth”
Opening Reception: Friday, April 8 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm
The exhibition is curated by Stephanie Shapiro, Curatorial Assistant with Authentic Contemporary Art/Tubman-Mahan Art Gallery at The Center for Green Urbanism. This event is presented by Authentic Contemporary Art and The Center for Green Urbanism.
The exhibition runs from April 8 through May 6, 2011
The opening will feature live music by Alex Martin.
Mama Earth is a visual celebration of the beauty of the planet Earth. The show encompasses feng shui (literally meaning wind and water) – the Chinese art of placement to bring balance and harmony to a physical space (e.g. bedroom). Feng Shui is based on having good energy – called chi, and its positive flow.
Throughout the exhibition, viewers will be able to enjoy the pieces from not only an aesthetic perspective, but also of chi and Feng Shui. Mama Earth will allow give viewers a chance to see our world macroscopically – in the big picture where Earth is part of the solar system, as well as microscopically on an elemental level where atoms are the building blocks of earth and what makes up not only us, but everything else.

The Center for Green Urbanism is open Monday-Friday, 10 am – 5 pm and on weekends by appointment.
The Tubman-Mahan Art Gallery at Center for Green Urbanism is located at 3938 Benning Road, NE. Washington, DC 20019 Ample parking in rear or accross the street at the Benning Library.
