A spontaneous art and retail locale in Adams Morgan featuring some of the area’s top artisans.  The pop up shop welcomes spring time in conjunction with the National Cherry Blossom Festival.  Adams Morgan  Main Street brings together top talents under one roof to present diversity of artistic expression in unique one-of-kind original fine & whimsical art, photography, ‘green’ artisans, jewelry, sculpture, pottery, & accessories.

Find all price ranges in this 3 week exhibit and shop which also highlights local indie businesses and has interesting demos and workshops.  Enjoy a plethora of activities, workshops and entertainment for all ages.

Recently I was partnered up with a local writer for Spark 15. Normally I don't get a chance to work with someone so close to me, they are usually several states away or in another country all together. As with the other Spark projects I worked on, this is my latest piece I created based on her short story. It was originally published in the Washington Post. (You can read it below, after the jump.)

Rochester's international small art phenomenon returns with thousands of original artworks, made and donated by celebrities, international & local artists, designers, college students, youths, and YOU. Each artwork must be 6x6 square inches (or mounted to a 6x6 board) and signed only on the back, to be exhibited anonymously. All entries will be accepted, exhibited and will be for sale to the public for $20 each (in the gallery and online for global purchasing) to benefit RoCo. Artist names will be revealed to the buyer upon purchase and all artworks remain on display through July 15th. Sold Out artists' names will be revealed next to their work on July 6. Anyone may enter up to 10 artworks of any medium and there is no fee to enter the exhibition.

I will be at the 15th annual Clarendon-Courthouse Mardi Gras parade with Artomatic handing out beads and showcasing the great artwork in the DC area.

Festivities start at 8 PM; the parade route stretches along Wilson Boulevard from North Veitch Street to North Irving Street, and typically ends with a raucous gathering at a local bar.

We will be #23 in the lineup, right after Freddie's Beach Bar. So not quite at the very beginning but still early enough.

"Virtually Digital VI" is a biennial exhibit curated by Professor Mike Cantwell at the CAT Gallery at Montgomery College in Rockville MD.

Open to all artists who create fine art that employs some for of digital method during the process. Including: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, collage, installation, sculpture, video, or multimedia.

Exhibit dates: March 5th - March 30th.

Work must be gallery ready and delivered by Feb. 29th 2012.

Visual artists exhibit a wide variety of art: painting, photography, collage, assemblage, found art, ceramics, glass, fiber, mixed media, video, furniture, jewelry, sculpture, installation, and more!

Artomatic is not juried. That is, participation is based on a first-come basis and no one needs to see your art in advance. It’s open to all artists 18 and older.

FEAST - Funding Emerging Art with Sustainable Tactics

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: FEAST at VisArts 2012

FEAST at VisArts (Funding Emerging Art with Sustainable Tactics) hopes to develop a bridge between artists and the community. FEAST is a public dinner designed to use community-driven financial support to democratically fund new and emerging art makers. The first FEAST at VisArts will take place on March 24, 2012 in the Gibbs Street Gallery in Rockville, Maryland. Patrons will give a $30 donation for which they receive supper and a ballot. Diners spend the evening reviewing a series of project proposals and conversing with the artists behind each idea. Attendees cast a vote for their favorite proposal, and by the end of the night, the artist who garners the most votes is awarded a grant comprised of that evening’s door money.

FEAST at VisArts invites artists, thinkers, and organizations to submit proposals for funding for up to $1,000. Project proposals will address the theme of Sustainability

WHAT IS RAW?

RAW:natural born artists is an independent arts organization, for artists, by artists.

Our mission is to provide independent artists of all creative genres, with the tools, resources and exposure needed to inspire and cultivate creativity. RAW educates emerging artists through seminars, workshops and insight to further the knowledge of their industry.

RAW connects them with one another so that they might grow together, while providing them with opportunities to give back to their own local youth communities through the arts.

What can you expect when attending RAW Showcase? We screen an independent film (usually a short, webisode or music video), a fashion show from an up-and-coming local designer, a musical performance, an art gallery featuring several independent visual artists, and performance art (comedy/dance/fire dancers, you name it...). You'll get a little taste of everything. Combine all this creativity with drinks, fun, and good company! (2) ONLINE ARTS COMMUNITY

www.RAWartists.org is designed to showcase our RAW artists online. RAW hosts a plethora of online profiles -- exclusive to our hand-picked RAW artists. RAWartists.org is open to the public to view, however, the site profiles and perks are reserved for only selected RAW artists. RAW artists can connect with other RAW artists, post videos, music and promote upcoming projects, upcoming events and track their success.

The RAW season runs from February to October every year, hosting a multi-faceted arts event every month in 21 different cities nationwide. RAW currently hosts monthly showcases in: Hollywood, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Ana, Pomona, Riverside, Santa Monica, San Diego, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Minneapolis, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Nashville, Austin, Phoenix, and Las Vegas.

Second Annual Art and Earth Juried Art Exhibit

The Berkeley Arts Council and The Arts Centre are again joining forces to bring a juried art exhibit to The Arts Centre gallery in Martinsburg, WV, April 20 - May 20, 2012.

The exhibit, which will be produced by the Berkeley Arts Council, will have the theme "Art and Earth: My Art - My World." Entries should reflect the artist’s view of nature, the environment, or reflect an Earth Day related theme.

Artists in all media are invited to submit works that express their feelings about nature and the environment.

The Juror for the exhibit will be Laura Amussen, Director of Exhibitions and Art Collection Coordinator at Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland.

ArtSpace Herndon Fine Art Photography Competition 2012

ArtSpace Herndon

ArtSpace Herndon invites photographers from DC, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia to participate in the 2012 ArtSpace Herndon Fine Art Photography Competition.

The competition is open to fine art photographers aged 18 or older working in any medium (digital or analog, color or monochrome), and using any printing technique - we care about well-done art more than the specific medium, technique or format. Fine Art Photography of any subject is welcome; there is no required theme for entries.

Entry Deadline: 24 March 2012, 5pm

Finalists for the Competition will make up the May 2012 Exhibition at ArtSpace Herndon in the main Nelson J. and Katherine Friant Post Gallery. Finalists will be notified on 31 March 2012 via email.

The show will run from 1 May to 30 May 2012, with an opening reception on Saturday, 12 May, from 7-9pm. Prizes will be awarded at the reception.

Mary Louise Ravese is founder and owner of Bella Vista Photography in Waterford, VA. She specializes in fine art nature and travel photography from locations across the world. Mary Louise’s fine art photography is in private, university and corporate collections in over 30 states and is exhibited nationally through art shows, galleries and shops. Her images have been used in calendars, magazines, books and websites including various projects with National Geographic maps. Mary Louise studied photography through the University of California, Berkeley and Santa Cruz extension programs, the Washington School of Photography, and through study with such noted photographers as Barbara Brundege, Mark Citret, and Harold “Doc” Edgerton. She is a member of the North American Nature Photography Association, the American Society of Picture Professionals, the Equine Photographer’s Network and the Loudoun Arts Council.

The International Photography Annual

The International Photography Annual

A Competitive Annual Publication of Works of Contemporary Photography and Lens-based Art and/or Writing about Photography

The INPHA 1 book will be released to the public In conjunction with FotoFocus*, a city-wide month-long 50+ venue celebration of the photographic arts in Cincinnati, Ohio (and surrounding region) in October 2012. The goal of Manifest's Annual International Publication of Contemporary Photography and Lens-based Art is to support the recognition, documentation, and publication of excellent, current, and relevant photographic art on an ongoing annual basis. INPHA will become the third in a suite of annual Manifest books charting contemporary art around the world. It joins the International Painting Annual and award winning International Drawing Annual as a significant new product of Manifest Press. This project represents a further expression of Manifest's unique process for assembling diverse and compelling multi-national projects, as well as its commitment to a wide variety of methods for visual creative expression. Upon its release INPHA 1 will be the tenth such major volume in the Manifest Press library. It will be formatted to complement the INDA and INPA series, and is expected to weigh in at approximately 200 pages full color.

Eligibility

The International Photography Annual is open to any artist submitting original works of art created within the timeframe of 2009 - 2012. Professionals and students in ALL disciplines are encouraged to submit. Manifest is eager to receive works in a wide range of applications with the qualification being that artwork submitted is representative of high quality "photography or lens-based art."

Note that artists who previously exhibited at Manifest or had work included in our publication projects ARE eligible to submit. Our juries are always conducted blind, and we do not disqualify folks who have success in past juries.

Media (artwork)

Open to any media applicable to the practice of photography or lens-based work, including but by no means limited to traditional, digital/new media, photography, printmaking, mixed media, collage, etc. All are possibly valid.

Entry Fee

Each work submitted (visual or written) must be accompanied by a $10 non-refundable entry fee. Number of entries is unlimited. Entry fee must be paid by U.S. check or money order made payable to MANIFEST, or by credit card via PayPal. Detail images may be included at no additional cost but should only be provided when necessary to reveal accurate understanding of the artwork. Beyond this nominal fee, the requirements spelled out here, and providing print-quality digital images of selected works, there are NO hidden costs or obligations associated with participation, and NO obligation to purchase additional copies of the printed publication.

The Bethesda Urban Partnership and Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District has announced “Tunnel Vision,” a public art exhibition to be hung in the Metro Tunnel that runs under Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda.

“Tunnel Vision” will showcase the work of 12 selected artists inside the Metro Tunnel. Interested artists are invited to submit up to 5 images of their work for review. Each artist will be paid $500 for the license to use their image. If selected, artists will need to provide a high resolution file for the image of their artwork to be printed on a poly metal material, size 4' high x 8' wide. Artists are encouraged to submit artwork that can easily be sized to 4’ x 8’.

Artists must be residents of Maryland, Virginia or Washington, D.C. to be eligible for consideration. There is a category for young artists, age 14-17, to apply. The deadline for submitting images for review is Friday, March 9, 2012. Interested artists should visit this website for more information and the application for consideration.

I just listened to a really informative podcast from Jason Horejs, owner of Xanadu Gallery, and Barney Davey, blogger (www.ArtPrintIssues.com) and author of How to Profit from the Art Print Market.

You can listen to the audio on your computer, or download to listen on the go. The file is a bit on the large size (the podcast ran an hour) so give it a minute or two to download.

Discussion ranged from social media, to print marketing, and they took some of questions on pricing, gallery relations and more.

Another Award!!

During the art reception for "Impressions" at Falls Church Arts, I was notified that my piece "contemplation" received the Juror's Honorable Mention Award. He said he couldn't stop looking at it!!

Slideluck Potshow Baltimore II is currently seeking cohesive, creative, and thought-provoking submissions for the show! All visual artists- photojournalists, painters, performers, sculptors, fashion and fine-art photographers are welcome! Presentations are a maximum of 5 minutes each, but most are much shorter, and between 15-40 images recommended. All types of media that can be presented within this framework, be it painting, sculpture, or installation art, are encouraged. Multimedia pieces are accepted, but no short films.

Free 500 square foot studio space available for one artist for a six month time period starting in early 2012. This studio is located at the main entrance of the entire facility. In return for free work space, the artist would be required to interact with the public and do a final exhibit in their studio of their work created in residence. The juror for this show is Steven Munoz, director of the Lee Arts Center, a program of Arlington Cultural Affairs. He has curated a number of exhibitions at the Lee Arts Center, curated The Art of the Storyteller at Shirlington Branch Library, and was juror for The Art League's All Media Exhibit in 2010. Steven holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in printmaking.
