Call for Entry: Biennial Maryland Regional Juried Art Exhibit

The UMUC Arts program invites entries of works by artists in Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C., for the first Biennial Maryland Regional Juried Art Exhibit, August 1 through October 16, 2011, in the Arts Program Gallery at the UMUC Inn and Conference Center, Adelphi, Maryland. Prizes will be awarded for accepted works in four categories:
President's Best of Show
Jurors Choice Award
Award of Merit
Arts Program Honorable Mention
A full-color catalog of works by all participants will accompany the exhibit. All participating artists will receive 20 copies of the catalog to be provided at the opening reception.
The deadline for submissions is May 15, 2011. There is a $20 application fee, which covers up to four entries.
Eligibility Requirements
The Biennial exhibit is open to artists, 18 years or older, who reside in Maryland, Northern Virginia or Washington, D.C.
All entries must be for original works (no reproductions), completed between 2009 through 2011. The following mediums will be considered: painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, fiber, glass, ceramics, wood, metal, photographs and mixed media.
Works submitted for consideration must be suitably prepared for installation. The curator reserves the right to deny entry if any work is deemed not suitable for display or too difficult to install.

Hands of Time
I just completed my newest piece Hands of Time. I took a little inspiration from the Groove Armada song of the same name. Though, I've had the idea for this piece for some time now, I've been a little busy recently. I love the feel of this piece, as it goes back to my more Mindscape style of artwork. 2011 Aesthetica Creative Works Competition
The competition is now open for entries! Aesthetica Magazine is inviting all artists, photographers, writers and poets to submit their work into the Creative Works Competition. Now in its fourth year, the competition is dedicated to celebrating and championing creative talent across the disciplines and welcomes entries from poets and writers as well as artists working in any medium, including sculpture, textiles, photography, ceramics, paint, digital art and more!
Winners and finalists are published in the Aesthetica Creative Works Annual. Winners also receive £500 prize money (apx. $800) plus other prizes. More guidelines on how to submit can be found online.
Deadline for submissions is 31 August 2011. All winners will be notified by 31 October 2011 and the Aesthetica Creative Works Annual will be published 1 December 2011.

Gallery Thirteen, in conjunction with Red Rocks Pizza Napoletana of Old Town Alexandria announces the Art on the Rocks Exhibition Series. The series, featuring two-dimensional artwork, will be hosted by Red Rocks and will run from June through December 2011. Each month, a different artist will be featured with his or her artwork hung in Red Rocks for display and purchase. Video from the Opening Reception of Mama Earth
Though I was unable to attend the opening reception for Mama Earth, they have posted a video from the event on YouTube. You can catch a glimpse of Divine Vision at the following marks: 1:03, 1:37, 2:15, 3:11 The camera operator could not get directly in front of my piece because of the crowd surrounding it! Also at the 3:01 mark you can see Divine Vision is the first image on the poster promoting Mama Earth. Yeah I'm totally geeking right now!

The publication presents all two- and three- dimensional media. This includes mixed media, painting, drawing, photography, and sculpture. Selected artists will be featured in volumes 15 & 16 of Studio Visit which will be released in the Fall of 2011. The exhibition is curated by Stephanie Shapiro, Curatorial Assistant with Authentic Contemporary Art/Tubman-Mahan Art Gallery at The Center for Green Urbanism. This event is presented by Authentic Contemporary Art and The Center for Green Urbanism.

The opening will feature live music by Alex Martin.
Mama Earth is a visual celebration of the beauty of the planet Earth. The show encompasses feng shui (literally meaning wind and water) – the Chinese art of placement to bring balance and harmony to a physical space (e.g. bedroom). Feng Shui is based on having good energy – called chi, and its positive flow.
Throughout the exhibition, viewers will be able to enjoy the pieces from not only an aesthetic perspective, but also of chi and Feng Shui. Mama Earth will allow give viewers a chance to see our world macroscopically – in the big picture where Earth is part of the solar system, as well as microscopically on an elemental level where atoms are the building blocks of earth and what makes up not only us, but everything else.

THE BYTE GALLERY at Transylvania University, in Lexington, Kentucky, is accepting submissions for its 2011 SPRING EXHIBITION. The gallery is an interactive kiosk dedicated to exhibiting digital art, music, video, and other multimedia works by artists, dramatists, and musicians from around the world. WORK CATEGORIES
1) Digital Print/Still Image The Digital Print/Still Image category is for fixed/still images where digital technology as an essential part of the creative process.
2) Electro-Acoustic Music The Electro-Acoustic Music category is for stereo works of music/sound art. These works should be electronically/digitally conceived and produced. In other words, these should not be recordings of vocal or instrumental acoustic compositions. It is certainly acceptable, however, that works may be derived from acoustic sound sources.
3) Videomusic The Videomusic category is for works that explore non-narrative abstraction with equal emphasis on electro-acoustic music/sound art and moving images. The video should be accompanied by stereo audio.
4) Dramatic Video The Dramatic Video category is theatrical work of short video/film where digital technology as an essential part of the creative process. The video should be accompanied by stereo audio, unless it is intentionally silent. If the work includes sound, it must be stereo.
5) Animation The Animation category is for video works that explore non-narrative abstraction with primary emphasis on moving images. Works may or may not include sound. If the work includes sound, it must be stereo.

FEED is an open call to any professional or graduate student artist in any medium. Artists currently enrolled in undergraduate art programs are not eligible.
FEED is a national juried biennial exhibition organized by 1708 Gallery in Richmond, Virginia. There are two tiers to the jurying process. The submissions will first be narrowed down to a list of semi-finalists. Out of this list, five finalists will be selected for the exhibition. Each of the five finalists will be invited to exhibit multiple works and will receive an honorarium of $1000.

THE WHAT? A major art show featuring artists working within a 250-mile radius of Richmond. Why that area? Because it takes in some of the Mid-Atlantic and some of the Southeast, and juror Leigh Anne Chambers knows there are a lot of good artists out there, and she wants to find out who you are.
THE WHO? Fine artists working in two or three dimensions, or in digital and video mediums. The only limitation is that they must work (create) within a 250-mile radius of Richmond. This includes Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Washington DC, Baltimore, and everywhere in between. If you aren't sure if you fall within the target area, check the map on the front of the prospectus to find out.
THE WHEN? The show will run June 24 through August 21, 2011. Postmark and online deadline for submissions is 11:59PM Friday, April 15, 2011.
THE WHERE? The show will occupy all 3,000 square feet of artspace gallery in Plant Zero, a renovated industrial building in Richmond's Manchester Arts District.
PRIZES. PRIZES UP TO $1000 and a solo exhibition in artspace's Helena Davis Gallery will be awarded at the discretion of Ms. Chambers.

TAG Galleries
This past weekend, I stopped in at TAG Galleries in Fells Point, Maryland. I spoke to Corey, One of the two owners, alongside his brother Ian. And I was really impressed with their operation. They have their own in-house printer to print Canvas prints and high quality Giclee reproductions. I have been looking for a new vendor to help me produce my canvas prints, and their high quality standards and convenient locality make them a great partner to team up with. Also we spoke briefly about the possibility of me doing a group show with some of their other artists. We will definitely be in touch with each other soon!!

(e)merge Now Accepting Applications
I mentioned this awhile back, now it seems they finally have some updated information, and are accepting applications.
The (e)merge art fair celebrates galleries, artists, artists' work and the creative process. The Fair garners support from all corners of the artworld and aims to create an energetic environment of collaboration and discovery.(e)merge will take place September 22 - 25, 2011, in Washington, DC, within blocks of the U.S. Capitol Building, at the Capitol Skyline Hotel. The Fair will feature dozens of international galleries and nonprofits in the Hotel rooms on designated exhibition floors. Throughout the Hotel's public areas and grounds, (e)merge will provide exhibition space, free of charge, for vetted works in various media by artists who are currently not represented.Artist ApplicationsArtists wishing to apply must be currently unrepresented by a gallery and may not have had a solo museum or Kunsthalle exhibition. What are your journeys, and how do they finish when you come back home? How do they start? Traveling across land, sea, the inner mind, an emotional field, expanses of time – beginning, end. Deadline for submissions is April 15, 2011.
“Embodiment” is a juried art show that will explore treatments of the figure through any medium. All images must be received by April 1st.
“Salon de Toilette” is a juried art show that will transform the beautiful restrooms at The Soundry into mini art galleries. Please submit your artwork in a jpg file to melissa@soundry.net by March 16th!
The Power of Self is a yearly competition hosted by Artists Wanted. The Grand Prize Deadline is Friday, April 15th at Midnight (EST).
Exhibition Theme: “BITE: identity and humor” asks artists to use irony, sarcasm, and wit to shed light on issues of personal struggle in mainstream society. Artists are asked to create and share work that challenges historical, societal, and cultural norms that dictate expectations of who we are supposed to be. The selected work does not have to be “funny” as much as insightful.

Holy Lives
In religions around the world people have been affected by the lives of holy men and women. As a result artists have created portraits, scenes and histories of important religious figures. Please submit objects in any media and format that present a life or an aspect of a holy figure for this Fall 2011 exhibition. (May 15, 2011 submission deadline).
The Abstract Universe: Microcosm/Macrocosm
Often abstract art has been motivated by interior emotion that is externalized as organic gesture or geometric pattern or play. For this Spring 2012 exhibition, objects in all different media are sought to express the merger of scientific theories, events and observations and art, celebrating how abstract art has been inspired by astronomy, biology, chemistry, physics and all related fields and sub-specialties. Lectures, music, dance and performance events will be planned as programs related to the exhibition. Submissions for these events are open as well. (May 15, 2011 submission deadline).
Transformative Art, Transforming Lives
We currently seek submissions from painters, photographers, sculptors, printmakers, muralists, installation and new media artists to support our developing advisory services and future projects. To be considered for the Art Advisory artists must complete the Call for Art Submissions form and submit materials according to the set guidelines, postmarked by APRIL 6th, 2011.

All artists, 18 years of age or older residing in the Washington, DC metropolitan area are eligible to enter. Deadline for submissions is April 15, 2011.
JUROR: Jack Rasmussen completed his MFA in Painting, MA in Arts Management, and PhD in Anthropology at American University. He has been presenting contemporary art on the east and west coasts for most of the last 35 years and is currently Director and Curator of the American University Museum.
ENTRY: Selections for the show will be made by the judge from JPEG images submitted by the artists. All work must be original and signed by the artist. Any work previously shown at a Capitol Hill ART League juried show is ineligible. All work must have been created within the last three years.
ENTRY FEES: Up to 3 entries may be submitted for a non-refundable fee of $25 (Current Capitol Hill ART League members $15.) Up to two additional entries may be submitted at $5 each. Artists submitting 3-dimensional work may provide two images of each piece.
Awards: Awards will be decided by the judge and will include cash awards for ‘Best in Show’, and ‘Merit’ awards. Two Honorable mentions will be awarded. All awards will be presented at the opening reception and judge’s talk on Saturday, May 14, 2011 from 5:00-7:00 PM

We’re excited to announce the first figure art show at The Soundry!
“Embodiment” is a juried art show that will explore treatments of the figure through any medium. Here are the details:
—Artwork must fit under the wide umberella of “figure art”
—Artists may submit up to 5 pieces for a submission fee of $25. Submission fees must be paid to The Soundry, either in person or by credit card over the phone.
—No requirements of size or medium.
This show will be juried by H. Doug Himes, Professor of Art at Southern Virginia University.
After you fill out this submission form, email JPG images of your submissions to melissa@soundry.net, and pay your submission fee.
All images must be received by April 1st. Artists will be notified of their acceptance on April 3rd. All art must be received at The Soundry no later than Thursday April 7th. Opening reception will be Friday April 8th, and the show will hang until May 10th.
